Teaching Standards

Aspects of an Outstanding Teacher

Teacher Accountability
At the base of every teachers lesson, ideals, and actions should lie a standard. Standards gives student learning structure and strong goals. Stardards also promote equality across classrooms. Standards assure even though teaching make look different from teacher to teacher, each is still student given the chance to reach the same learing outcomes for his or her grade level.  There are many stanadards for a teacher to follow.
As teacher I have national, state, and school standards to follow. One of the standards I have worked with a lot this semester are the National Science Education Standards or NSES. These standards were developed by a national organization that wish to promote scientific literacy with in students. This way students can meaningfuly discuss and particpate in scientic issues that affect society. These standards adress scientific content, teaching, and assessment. While desinging several of my feild work lessons I constantly adhered to the NSES content standards. One lesson I designed that I heeds to the NSES standards was my benchmark lesson on ecosystems.
Also, as a teacher in training, my school has many standards and objects for me to meet in my courses. One standard that I work with a lot this semester was the Marquette University and the Wisconsin State Department of Instruction Standard # 1. This standard is composed of knowledge, disposition, and preformance indicators. I was assessed on these indicators through a critcal task on the concept of magnitism.
In order to fullfill the knowledge indicators I had to give a detailed explanation of major concepts, complex understanding of the major concepts, assumptions and ways of knowing. Also give a clear analysis of how possible student misconceptions can influence learning.
For the disposition iindicator I had to display thoughfull understanding of multiple perspectives related to the major concepts, included a variety of multiple perspective.
Finally for the preformance indicator I had to develope a variety of creative representations and teaching methods, select a variety of curricular and community resoures and thoughtfully articulate ratinale for inclusion. Finally, I had to thoughtfully articulate how the curricula encourages students to see questions and interpret major ideas from multiple prespectives.
